Television advertising
The left-turn versus right-turn give way rule has changed
The give way rule for uncontrolled T-intersections has changed
Our approach
The public information campaign we developed was simple to ensure that every road user in New Zealand understands the changes and where they can go for more information. For this reason, we have simply focused on the date of change and what the two new rules are in the bulk of the advertising.
Some other complementary advertising channels use a question element so that readers have to think about who has to give way before being given the answer.
All advertising drives people to www.giveway.govt.nz or the NZTA contact centre to find out more.
Target audience
The changes to two of the give way rules affect all road users, whether they drive, ride, cycle or walk.
The campaign
The campaign launched on television from 15 March 2012 with two ads - one for each rule change. Each of the ads focuses on one of the rule changes so that viewers can take in the information about each change separately.
The changes are also advertised on websites, on the radio, in print and via a leaflet door drop to over 1.7 million homes.
