The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) has awarded a $103 million roading contract to Transfield Services Ltd to maintain part of the Waikato’s state highway network for the next ten years.

Under this new contract Transfield Services will deliver maintenance and civil works services for 449 kilometres of the state highway network in the Waikato and King Country regions. The contract area covers SH3 from south of Hamilton city at Airport Road to just south of Mokau, a short section of SH4 near Te Kuiti and all of SH39, SH31 and SH37.

Under the contract with the NZTA, Transfield Services has custodianship of all aspects of this part of the roading network, maintaining and managing it to an agreed condition and performance level for the ten-year period. This includes proactive and reactive maintenance, response to emergencies, liaison with communities, councils and other stakeholders and management of any third party activities.

NZTA Hamilton State Highway Manager Kaye Clark says, “Transfield Services was awarded New Zealand’s first Performance Specified Maintenance Contract (PSMC) in 1999 to manage this section of network. The level of service they have provided has proven the value of this type of contract arrangement and we are confident that this section of our network will continue to be well managed.”
