Widening work for Rapaura Road, SH62

14 Jul 2010 | Wellington Regional Office

A $4 million project to widen Rapaura Road, SH62, from Wratts Road to Spring Creek, is now underway.

Marlborough Roads is widening 5.5 kilometres of seal and is to replace Murphys Bridge.  The contract for the project was awarded to Fulton Hogan Ltd recently.

Marlborough Roads manager Frank Porter says this significant safety work will complete the widening of SH62 that Marlborough District Council started about five years ago.  It is expected the project will be completed by mid next year.

Roadside hazards such as power poles and ditches are to be removed.  The power poles are being relocated closer to the boundary with neighbouring property, and 900 metres of deep ditch is to be replaced with culverts.

“Widening the existing seal will provide more space for all roadusers, and significantly increase the safety level of this road,” Mr Porter says.
