Complying with driver licence requirements
Drivers of all vehicles are required to hold a current and valid driver licence. In some circumstances, they may also be required to hold current and valid driver licence endorsements. These include drivers:
- of vehicles carrying passengers
- of tow trucks
- of forklifts, bulldozers and other special-type vehicles
- transporting dangerous or hazardous goods.

Complying with all road rules
However, no matter what type of vehicle you drive, there are rules with which you must comply to ensure your and other road users' safety.
These include:
- general road rules, covered in the the Road code
- specific rules for drivers of vehicles in licensed transport services, covered in the Land Transport (Operator Licensing) Rule 1999
- rules covering the transport of dangerous or hazardous goods.
