Introduction
The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is undertaking a transport study of State Highway 1 from Blenheim (starting at the Riverlands passing lanes) to the Ashley River Bridge (north of Christchurch). The study excludes the urban areas of Kaikoura and Amberley. The NZTA has commissioned Beca consultants to undertaken the study.
The purpose of the study is to identify route security, route reliability and safety issues that need to be managed to ensure an appropriate level of services for the next 30 years. Issues may include road user safety, growth pressures, passing opportunities, natural hazards, cycle demands and integration with the local road network.
The study will enable the NZTA to develop a strategy to optimise an ongoing management, maintenance and improvement programme to ensure this important link in the state highway network is safe and reliable for all that use it.
This consultation closed Friday 23 January 2009.
