Consultation index

The purpose of the Traffic control devices manual (TCD manual) is to provide guidance and standards for using traffic control devices to manage traffic networks. It is replacing many existing New Zealand-based resources, in particular the Manual of Traffic Signs and Markings. The TCD manual will complement the Austroads series of guidelines by providing detailed or specific New Zealand practices not included in those Austroads documents.

Each of the 10 planned volumes making up the TCD manual is being developed by a working group of practitioners with experience and interest in the specific subject matter. The first volume of the TCD manual to be published was entitled Parking control. The working group overseeing the guide included representatives of local government, NZ Parking Association, Ministry of Transport and NZ Automobile Association.

Development of the original guide led to recommendations for change to the Land Transport Rule: Traffic Control Devices (TCD Rule). The TCD Rule Amendment 2010, which comes into effect on 1 April 2011, included many of the changes recommended. The draft document incorporates those changes to law relating to parking control and comments received on the original guide.

To ensure industry needs are met, we are now seeking comment on the draft.
