Renewing or replacing your licence

Generally, your photo driver licence has a life of 10 years. Close to the date your licence is due to expire, we’ll automatically send a renewal pack to the address we have for you in our system. But you may need to renew or replace your licence before then, for example because you’ve lost your licence or you’ve changed your name. Different criteria apply to older drivers when renewing licence classes or endorsements.

For drivers 75+

When you turn 75, your licence will be valid for only two to five years and you’ll need a medical certificate each time you renew your licence. In some cases, you may have to sit an on-road test.

Renewing endorsements

Some licence endorsements expire at the same time as your driver licence. Others have different expiry dates.

Renewing or upgrading your licence

Renewing your licence is a quick and easy process – you can do it at anytime or simply wait for a renewal pack, which will arrive before your licence expires.

Replacing or changing your licence

You need to replace damaged, lost or stolen driver licences immediately. This will help to prevent them from being used fraudulently. You can also apply for a replacement if you change your name.
