Alignment works: temporary diversion between Whakamaru and SH1 at Atiamuri

|

In tandem with the opening of the new State Highway 1 Atiamuri Bridge to traffic about mid-morning this Monday (18 March), a section of State Highway 30 will be temporarily closed to allow the final tie-in of the new SH1/SH30 alignment to be completed.

The new alignment is part of the overall Atiamuri Bridge Replacement Project and the temporary closure is expected to last for about three days, with reopening planned for Thursday (March 21).

Highway Network Operations Manager, Karen Boyt, says a signposted diversion will be put in place between SH1 and Whakamaru while the work is completed.  This detour is not expected to cause any significant delays to travel times through the area.

“Traffic travelling between SH1 and Whakamaru will be temporarily diverted away from SH30 along Tirohanga Road and Tram Road,” says Ms Boyt. (Tirohanga Road joins SH1 1 km southeast of SH30). "In the meantime, the 50 km/hr temporary speed restriction which has been in place at the intersection of SH1 and SH30 will remain while these last works are completed.”

More information is available by phoning the NZTA’s freephone on 0800 4HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49), which can also be used to report any significant road issues or hazards which people may come across during their travels.
