Blast work to help clear major slip at Makarora slip

|

Motorists can expect extended delays this Thursday, 25 October 2012 while blasting work is carried out to improve safety at a major slip on State highway 6 about 16km south of Makarora.

NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) Area Manager Central Otago, John Jarvis, says the job involves removing around 500m³ of fractured rock to stabilise the slip that came down in early September. The difficult terrain where the work is being carried out means traffic delays are unavoidable.

Subject to weather conditions, there will be an extended traffic delay of about one hour from 1:00pm on Thursday 25 October 2012 for blasting work.

Mr Jarvis says the recent ongoing delays of up to 20 minutes can also be expected during each working day at the site as clearance work continues to make progress.

The NZTA appreciates the patience of road users while this essential safety work is carried out.
