Further safety improvement work at the Nevis Bluff

|

Another round of safety improvement work begins early next month at the Nevis Bluff above State Highway 6 between Cromwell and Queenstown

Motorists can expect delays of up to 10 minutes on weekdays between 8:00am and 5:00pm from Monday 2 February 2015 through to Friday 27 February 2015, subject to weather conditions. There won’t be any delays on Waitangi Day, Friday 6 February.

Transport Agency Network Manager Otago, John Jarvis, says we are doing some follow-up rock stabilisation work at the site that was held over from the middle of last month, to avoid causing disruptions to road users during the busy Christmas-New Year holiday period. This area of rock was monitored over the holiday period to ensure it didn’t pose any risk to road users.

“Contractors are returning to complete this stabilisation job along with other routine tasks associated with the safety management programme that we have in place at this site. The work involves abseil inspection, rock scaling and helicopter sluicing to remove loose debris.”

Mr Jarvis said road user safety is paramount while this work is underway, so some hold ups for motorists are unavoidable, and we thank them for their patience during this time.
