Lights off at key intersection in Whangarei

|

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) reminds drivers of changes this weekend to a key intersection as it moves onto the next stage of Whangarei’s State Highway 1 improvements.

There will be two changes affecting road users from 7pm Friday 17 October until 3pm Saturday 18 October 2014:

  • The signals at the intersection of SH1 (Western Hills Drive) and Selwyn Avenue West will be switched off and turned into a manually controlled intersection with lane restrictions. Drivers using the intersection will need to follow the manual instructions given by the point guard on duty.
  • During this time, night works will take place to reconstruct the highway.

The Transport Agency, in partnership with the Whangarei District Council, is continuing to progress the upgrades to SH1 (Western Hills Drive) through Whangarei.  These projects, when completed, will help manage growing traffic numbers, improve safety and make travel easier for locals and visitors travelling in and around Whangarei.

The first of these changes was completed in late September at the intersection of SH1/ Selwyn Avenue East, with the team now moving onto the other side, starting works at Selwyn Avenue West.

All work is weather dependent and will be deferred to the next suitable date.
