Project introduction

The NZ Transport Agency has worked with Auckland Transport and KiwiRail to upgrade the Ellerslie Train Station. Purpose

As part of the improvements, the existing rail platform has been reduced in width by two metres to give space for an additional northbound motorway lane to be built at a later date. The Ellerslie train station was upgraded now in preparation for electrification of the rail network in 2013.

Project features

  • Existing platform width reduced by two metres to give space for the future motorway lane between Ellerslie and Greenlane
  • Two new lifts to give mobility users access to/from Kalmia Street
  • Facilities on the platform have been revamped with all new furniture
  • New pedestrian bridge and new stairs have replaced the old stone ramp
  • Rubbish bins, CCTV, PA system, HOP ticketing machine
  • One new bay shelter for wet weather protection
  • Pedestrian bridge was rebuilt to allow clearance for electrification masts and overhead wires
