The Transport Agency is testing a number of different kinds of paint, to see which ones will give us the high levels of performance, durability and visibility that we need on our State Highways over the coming years.
To test a number of different roadmarking materials and find which is the safest and most cost effective to use on state highways in the future
The result of the paint trials will lead to increased safety for road users and better value for money for road owners.
This test will show the Transport Agency which roadmarking materials will be tough enough to withstand New Zealand road and weather conditions, as well as which are bright enough to see in the daytime, reflect enough light at night to be easily seen and stay visible in wet conditions (day or night).
Paint trials are being conducted on State Highway 1 at Te Horo, and on Fergusson Drive in Upper Hutt.
