Project purpose
To provide an enhanced crash barrier system thereby improving road user safety and vehicle containment along SH1 Thorndon Overbridge, and including Aotea Quay on and off ramps.

Features
- 'Nested Thriebeam' guardrail system - a custom design of crash barrier for Thorndon Overbridge
- Mesh screens are being fitted below the crash barrier to prevent litter and debris falling from Thorndon Overbridge to areas below
Other facts
The new barrier system is similar to that installed on the recently completed Tauranga Second Harbour Bridge Crossing.
