How councils develop their programmes

Local councils develop land transport programmes to detail the land transport activities they plan to implement and how they propose to fund them. Land transport programmes are developed by district and city councils generally for roading, pedestrian, cycling and public transport infrastructure activities. Regional councils develop these programmes to detail public transport services they will provide. Regional transport committees develop them to integrate regional, city and district council and state highway activities and obtain National Land Transport Programme (NLTP) funding.

How councils get funding for activities

Potential activities have to be included in the regional land transport programmes before they can be considered for funding from the National Land Transport Fund.
