The NZTA's role in relation to sector training
As a result of the review, the NZTA has a new training programme framework for 2010/12 (PDF, 63KB), which supports its new role in relation to sector training.
Through our Training Programme role we provide support to key transport providers by:
- Responding to critical gaps in the provision of core transport capability training that cannot be addressed by other means; and
- Ensuring efficient implementation of NZTA policy, programmes or information.
We use sector training only in instances where no capability improvement initiatives are in place or being planned to address any known needs.
Capability needs are likely to be identified and addressed as part of the NZTA's new approach to investing in land transport outcomes. This approach revolves around working with transport decision makers early in the planning process to give clear investment signals, negotiate joint outcomes, priorities and strategies to achieve them, and develop land transport packages and programmes to deliver them as funding becomes available.
The NZTA's sector training priorities 2010/12
Sector training priorities for 2010/12 are:
- Transport economic evaluation
- Travel demand management (with a focus on congestion relief)
- Capability needs for the 'Safe System' approach to road safety.
Other areas of capability need and associated training gaps may be identified as the investment relationship model is implemented.
