The motorway will replace Wiri Station Road as the main link from Manukau city centre to the Southwestern Motorway. The 4.5 kilometre motorway will form the southern section of the Western Ring Route, along with the SH20 Manukau Harbour Crossing project. Construction began in June 2006 and is almost completed, with the motorway scheduled to be opened progressively from August through to December 2010.

On completion the project team will have:

  • Manufactured and installed 344 super T beams
  • Constructed 12 bridges
  • Installed 7 sediment ponds to collect and treat storm water
  • Completed 16.8 km of drainage – enough to stretch from Queens Street to Auckland Airport
  • Relocated extensive services along the project’s alignment
  • Moved over 1,000,000 cubic metres of material.
