Waterfront Road Reserve

The Waterfront Road Reserve in Mangere Bridge is a construction site while the Manukau Harbour Crossing is being built.  At the end of the project the Manukau Harbour Crossing Alliance (MHX) must restore the reserve and return it to Manukau City Council as a park.
MHX is now planning the reserve’s restoration, which will involve:

  • Clearing all construction materials, buildings and debris off the land
  • Re-establishing the seawall around the reserve
  • Removing our fences and gates
  • Some landscaping, to vary the contour of the reserve and to create some more sheltered areas suitable for picnics and barbecues
  • Re-planting the reserve as an open grassy park with some trees – mainly pohutukawa
  • Building a 3.5m wide shared cycleway and footpath from Coronation Road, under the bridge, to Mahunga Avenue
  • Providing vehicle access to the southern end of the Mangere Bridge, particularly for maintenance vehicles and the provision of car parking
