SH2 Muldoon's Corner

Updated: 3 May 2012

The Muldoon’s Corner project on the Rimutaka Hill Road, approximately 50km from Wellington, will improve safety, visibility, and security for road users.

The project received funding through the Government's Jobs and Growth stimulus package of February 2009, allowing construction to commence in August 2009, 30 months ahead of programme.

Construction is expected to be completed by May 2012.

The project is just south of the summit of the Rimutaka Hill Road, 50km north of Wellington, on State Highway 2, the only practical link between Wellington and the Wairarapa. It includes the realignment of seven existing bends over a 1km distance.

The Rimutaka Hill Road carries approximately 5,300 vehicles daily.

The project has employed more than 200 people to date in various capacities, with up to 80 on site at any one time. Materials and machinery have also been sourced locally, where possible, to benefit the local economy.

The Muldoon’s Corner project is complete.

Thank you for your patience.

Please take care and drive to the conditions.
