Consultation

Updated: 9 December 2011

The NZTA is committed to working with local residents and businesses to find the most appropriate outcome for Russley Road (SH1). It is not always possible to satisfy conflicting issues but we will look into all concerns and do what we can to alleviate them. Effective consultation would not be possible without community involvement – so thanks to all those who are getting involved.

Update

We have been working hard to finalise plans for the Russley Road (SH1) Harewood Road to Avonhead Road, including the Russley/Memorial Interchange.

We've been working closely with the Christchurch City Council and the local community to come up with the best plans for our future. To make sure we fully consider their views and all the options, we're taking a bit more time to finalise our proposals, which we're now aiming to present early next year instead of this month as originally planned.

What’s new since the first phase of consultation in November/December 2010?

Feedback from the Nov/Dec 2010 round of consultation has been analysed and considered in depth. The most common questions and concerns were as follows:

  • Nearly everyone believed that it was vital for SH1 to be upgraded as traffic volumes are already causing major hold ups at peak times.
  • There was general support for an interchange solution at Memorial Avenue.
  • Local residents, community groups and schools voiced concerns about the increased traffic volumes on local roads.
  • Property owners had concerns about how they will get to and from their properties.
  • Local businesses were concerned customers and suppliers may find access difficult and wanted access to Russley Road and the airport area to remain.
  • Cyclists were concerned about access across and along Russley Road.
  • Emergency services wanted to make sure access to the area would not be compromised.

Thank you once again to those who provided feedback or took part in this process.

The consultation November/December 2010

In November/December 2010 The NZTA asked for feedback on the Russley Road (SH1) four laning from Wairakei to Yaldhurst and Russley Road (SH1)/Memorial Avenue interchange.

The closing date for this feedback was 17 December 2010.

A project open day was held on Tuesday 30 November at the Russley Golf Course. NZTA staff and the project consultants were available at this open day to discuss the details of the project.

Thank you to all those who attended the open day or provided feedback during November/December 2010. The NZTA is committed to working with local residents and businesses to find the most appropriate outcome for SH1/Russley Road and this would not be possible without community involvement.
