Purpose

This section of motorway will be widened from three to four lanes northbound. The project is due to start in November 2014 and be completed March 2016.

Stage one included the successful upgrade of the Ellerslie Train Station and relocation of the main highway overbridge piers.

Benefits

  • The additional lane will increase this section of motorway from three to four lanes which will help to relieve congestion and improve traffic efficiency.
  • The additional lane will be constructed by extending the lane from Ellerslie-Panmure Highway on-ramp to Greenlane, ensuring a continuous northbound passage and improving safety for any merging traffic travelling from Ellerslie–Penrose onto SH1.
