The project is increasing the motorway’s capacity over 2.2km by:
- Adding a 450-metre three-lane tunnel for northbound traffic, next to the Victoria Park flyover
- Reconfiguring the Victoria Park flyover for separated south & west traffic
- Widening the motorway through St Marys Bay by one traffic lane in each direction, and a citybound bus lane
- Extending the moveable lane barriers on the harbour bridge to Fanshawe Street to operate a PM peak lane
- Upgrading the Fanshawe Street on and off ramps.
Information for drivers here includes:
- Maps showing the layout of the motorway, including lane configurations at the entry and exit of the tunnel opened 14 November 2011
- Video animations that show you how the major changes – the peak lane through St Marys Bay and the reconfigured Victoria Park flyover - work
- Northbound changes: how the tunnel works and, how to be tunnel safe. There’s also information about how the PM peak lane from Fanshawe Street to the harbour bridge works.
- Southbound changes: information about how the Victoria Park flyover works in its new configuration. Our advice to drivers is to get in the correct lane for their destination early, and to stay in that lane.
Note: Road works to reconfigure the Victoria Park flyover need fine weather. Rain on the critical weekends could result in delays.
