Bridge manual

This manual is to foster best practice and establish guidelines for the design and evaluation of bridges carrying road and/or pedestrian traffic. Bridge technology is an area of ongoing research and refinement and the manual is reviewed from time to time to incorporate important corrections and/or amendments.

The Bridge Manual was first issued in May 1994 was amended four times. The second edition was published in June 2003 and it incorporated the earlier manual and its amendments and included an updated Design Statement section and a new section: Requirements for Aesthetics.

The second edition has been amended in June 2004, September 2004, December 2004 and July 2005.

NOTE: The December 2004 Amendment is a 'Provisional' amendment and has been issued pending publication of NZS 1170.5 and NZS 3101 and a full review of the relevant parts of the manual.
