Chapter F1 Classification of activities
F1.2 Use of activity classification
Purpose
The purpose of the classification of activities is to:
- ensure conformity of the National Land Transport Programme (NLTP) funding structure with the activity classes in the Government Policy Statement (GPS)
- identify what activities can be funded from the NLTF and from funds the NZTA is managing on behalf of the Ministry of Transport
- provide a basis for comparing transport costs over time and between organisations.
Activities are classified into work categories, which are then organised into activity classes. Work categories are defined in a practical way so that minor operations, maintenance or renewal activities are sometimes included in other work categories to facilitate efficient assessment, programming and delivery of activities.
Position in the NLTF process
The classification is used at all stages in the planning, funding and management process.
