Getting to Wellington
Air
Wellington International Airport (external link) is 8km southeast of the Wellington central business district and hosts numerous domestic flights by Air New Zealand, Sounds Air and Jetstar (external links). Buses, shuttles or taxis are available to get into the city. The major rental car companies have desks in the terminal, and long and short term parking is available.
Sea
Two companies, Interislander and Bluebridge (external links), provide ferry services across Cook Strait to Picton in the South Island. These services depart up to nine times daily to transport both passengers and vehicles. The journey takes you through the Marlborough Sounds.
Road

From Wellington, take the Overlander (external link) rail service which travels daily to Auckland. The Capital Connection (external link) is a two hour commuter rail service between Wellington and Palmerston North. A regular commuter rail service (external link) travels into Wellington from neighbouring Kapiti Coast and Wairarapa.
