Ah summer. Season of sun, holidays and…road works.
Summer is the season when we carry out vital maintenance to the nation’s highways.
We get the best results from maintenance and repairs when work is completed between October to May - when the weather is warmer and the air temperature is drier, so the seal sticks more effectively to the road surface.
This year we’ve launched a Summer Journeys(external link) website to give travellers information about maintenance and road works that could cause disruption so they can predict how long their journey might take, plan ahead and stay safe.
“Summer Journeys is ideal for anyone who is getting out on the road this summer,” Says Harry Wilson, the Transport Agency’s Freight Director and Regional Director Waikato/Bay of Plenty.
“Whether you’re travelling for work or play, check the website, finding out about what might be happening in your area and plan ahead,” Harry says.
The website will provide information about known delays so you can allow extra time if needed. Remember you can also call our contact centre on 0800 444 449 for updated highway information.
If you’re on Facebook or Twitter, it’s easy to find out what’s going on – just ‘like’ and follow our regional pages. You can also help us spread the word by sharing our posts with your family and friends.
We understand road works can inconvenience people on their journeys. Dust, noise, speed restrictions and detours can be frustrating, which is why we’re giving people as much information as we can so they can plan and be prepared.
Have a great summer journeys season and stay safe on the road.
