Half price public transport fares

Public transport services across Aotearoa New Zealand will have half price fares until 30 June 2023 as part of the government’s temporary transport cost reduction package.

If you are already a user of public transport, you don’t need to do anything to get the discount. It will automatically be applied to all public transport fares.

Discounted fares are applied to all core transport services (conditions apply). These include:

  • buses
  • metro trains (including Te Huia and Capital Connection)
  • Total Mobility (Total Mobility clients get a 50% discount on their normal subsidised fare. As usual, any amount over the regional cap is paid by the user in full.)
  • some ferries (see regional information below).

Find out what services are discounted in your region and get further information:

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency does not directly provide public transport services. We set policies and invest in services that are then delivered by regional councils and Auckland Transport.
