Application for a 50MAX Permit to exceed mass limits

This information request is required to process an application for a High Productivity Motor Vehicle Permit under the Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimensions and Mass 2016.

If your application is successful a Permit will be issued for the specified vehicle combination to operate, subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Permit, as a High Productivity Motor Vehicle within a specified region at higher mass and if required a Permit to operate as over length nationwide.

Notes:
  1. The NZ Transport Agency will invoice your NZTA account number the current fee for each permit issued from this application.
    The current fee is $54.55 (excl. GST) per Permit issued. (As specified in Schedule 4A of the Heavy Motor Vehicle Regulations 1974).

You may apply for a single Prime Mover unit and up to 5 trailers.
Note: All trailer units must have identical dimensions and configuration.

You will require a HPMV Permit to Exceed Length Limits for each of the Vehicle Combinations you are applying for. If you already have this Permit for any of the vehicle combinations, you will not have to reapply. You need to apply for any of the vehicle combinations that do not have a HPMV Permit to Exceed Length Limits. (A HPMV Permit to Exceed Length Limits will be issued with your 50MAX Permit to Exceed Mass Limits)

Notes:
  1. The above vehicle combination(s) are 50MAX Ready Pro Forma. You need to complete the relevant Pro Forma diagram for the vehicle combination(s) you are applying for and attached it to this application form. (You need only complete and submit one 50MAX Ready Pro Forma diagram with your application, as all trailers must be identical units. You can find the 50MAX Ready Pro Forma diagram at HPMV 50MAX Pro forma vehicle design).
  2. Each of the above vehicle combination(s) requires a 50MAX Vehicle Combination Attribute Check Sheet that has been certified by a NZ Transport Agency appointed Certifier. Please attach a copy of these to this application form.
  3. To operate this vehicle combination legally, you must have a current, valid High Productivity Motor Vehicle Permit to Exceed Length Limits for the vehicle combination(s).
  4. You must load the vehicle combination, at all times, according to the general mass, Class One mass limits on individual axles, axle sets and combinations of axles as prescribed by the Vehicle Dimension and Mass Rule Schedule 3, Part 1, Tables 1.1A to 1.5. The Tables will be provided in your Permit as part of the permit Terms and Conditions.
  5. Compliance with 5 above may mean, for some loads, you will be unable to load to the maximum gross mass you are permitted to load up to.

Travel details

To help us understand where the permit is likely to be used, please advise the town/city of origin and destination for the journey you most frequently expect the permitted vehicle combination to travel.

Notes:
  1. The above vehicle combination cannot operate with a gross mass exceeding 44 tonnes across any structure or roads restricted under the conditions of the permit.
  2. The above vehicle combination cannot operate on any Local Authority road network restricted under the conditions of the permit.
  3. If you wish to operate the vehicle combination on any Local Authority road network that is restricted under the conditions of the permit, you must apply to the Local Road Controlling Authority for a full High Productivity Motor Vehicle Permit to Exceed Mass Limits and are legally bound to operate the vehicle combination under the terms and conditions of their permit within the boundary of their area of Authority.
  4. You cannot operate the vehicle combination with a gross mass exceeding 44 tonnes in any Region other than what has been permitted.
  5. This information requested is required to process an application for a 50MAX High Productivity Motor Vehicle Permit under the Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Dimensions and Mass 2016. The information that you provide as part of this application will be stored on, and form part of, the 50MAX Permit Register. The NZ Transport Agency may use the information for the purposes of monitoring and regulating operator behaviour. The Transport Agency may also disclose the information to Road Controlling Authorities for the purposes of network maintenance and operations.
