The NZ Transport Agency will close Davies Avenue between Putney Way and Wiri Station Road from Thursday 5 March as part of ongoing progress on the SH20-1 Manukau Extension project.

The closure is for construction of the Lambie Drive Interchange as part of the SH20-1 Manukau Extension project. Davies Avenue will reopen when the new motorway is finished in mid 2010.

Motorists travelling from Davies Avenue to Wiri Station Road can follow the signposted detour via Putney Way. Motorists travelling from Wiri Station Road can follow the signposted detour via Lambie Drive.

At the same time, the eastbound lanes on Wiri Station Road will open to motorists on the new 82 metre bridge. Motorists have been travelling on the westbound lanes since December last year while work has taken place to complete the eastbound lanes.

Construction on the $210 million motorway project started in June 2006 and is scheduled to be completed in mid 2010. The motorway will give motorists a direct link from SH1 to the airport and central and western suburbs, via SH20. The project forms part of the southern section of the Western Ring Route, a 48 kilometre alternative to SH1 via SH20, SH16 and SH18 between Manukau and Albany.
