Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises multiple chip sealing worksites are active on State Highway 2 and State Highway 35 in the Eastern Bay of Plenty next week.

Delays are expected and motorists are advised to plan for these delays and allow extra time for their journeys.

Chip sealing work sites for the week starting 29 March 2021

  • SH2 Edgecumbe
  • SH2 Pikowai and Matatā
  • SH35 Omaio, Hariki, Houpoto Bay and Whitianga Bay

Temporary speed limits of 30km/h or 50km/h are in place at the above work sites, including when workers are off-site.

For a period of at least 24 hours after a site has been sealed, and before it is swept, it will continue to operate under a reduced temporary speed limit while we allow vehicles to travel over the seal and help “bed in” the chip and to reduce the risk of chip damaging windscreens. Following this bedding in process, the site is swept, excess chip is removed and the temporary speed limit remains in place until line marking has been reinstated (within 48 hours of the site being sealed, weather dependent).

It is important motorists adhere to the relevant temporary speed limits during these works to avoid damage to their vehicles and ensure their safety and that of other road users and road workers.
