Fraser Street and 15th Avenue intersection survey work to
begin

The NZ Transport Agency is about to start gathering information for the upgrade of the Fraser Street and 15th Avenue intersection in Tauranga city.

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is about to start gathering information for the upgrade of the Fraser Street/15th Avenue intersection in Tauranga city.

Survey work will be carried out over the next week for the intersection upgrade, which is part of the first phase works for the Hairini Link project.

Hairini Link is the name of the section of the Tauranga Central Corridor that runs along 15th Avenue to Turret Road, across the Hairini Bridge to the Maungatapu and Welcome Bay roundabout system at Hairini.

The first stage of Hairini Link will create ‘quick win’ improvements to the Turret Road/15th Avenue corridor and will be completed throughout 2009 and 2010.  The Fraser Street upgrade is likely to take place in 2010 and will improve traffic flow ahead of the larger project being completed.

NZTA Regional Director Harry Wilson says the upgrade of the Fraser Street/15th Avenue intersection will help increase the travel capacity of the 3.4km Hairini Link route and will be compatible with the planned long-term capacity upgrade of the corridor.

Levels and measurements from the survey work will be used to determine cross sections used in road design. The work is expected to be carried out with minimal disruption to traffic.
