The NZ Transport Agency is inviting the community to have its say on options to improve road safety and reduce traffic congestion on SH3 between Waitara and Bell Block.

NZTA Regional Transport Systems Manager Ross I’Anson, says open days will be held on 6 and 7 December to share proposed plans to make the road safer and get community feedback.

“Between 2010 and 2014, 25 people have died or been seriously injured on this road, all of these crashes are a tragedy and our thoughts are with the families and friends of the people who have died.”

Mr I’Anson says improving safety on this section of State Highway 3 is a priority for the agency.

“The workshops we held with the community earlier this year have provided some great ideas that will improve safety and reduce traffic congestion. We want to share these ideas and get feedback from locals – they know this road better than anyone.

“We’ll look at all the feedback we get before we make any final decisions on the next step,” Mr I’Anson says.

More information about the safety improvements and how to provide feedback for those who cannot attend the open days is on the SH3 Waitara to Bell Block Community engagement page.
