HouHou Creek bridge deck replacement/ steel repairs

Major repairs on the HouHou bridge, north of Hokitika, will begin next week, 16 November and take until Monday, 21 December. Scaffolding may be erected by the end of this week (ie by 13 November) and preliminary work can start next week.

The NZ Transport Agency’s Fulton Hogan team will replace existing running planks with new 50mm planks, fully upgrade steel angle connections and reseal the deck.

Traffic management

Stop and go manual traffic management will be needed for some of the work with some delays when the bridge deck is being replaced. Short delays of up to five minutes may occur in the first couple of weeks. Longer delays will not begin until later in November.

Electronic message boards will advertise delays for drivers so people know what to expect and the local dairy company and transport businesses will be kept informed.
