Road conditions have improved on the South Island’s alpine passes, with all road driving restrictions removed.

  • State Highway 6 Haast Pass is open after a short closure between the Pass and Makarora.
  • SH7 Lewis Pass is open
  • SH7 Rahu Saddle is open.
  • SH73 Arthurs Pass to Otira is now open with no restrictions.

All drivers need to be careful especially under shaded areas that get little sun.

“Please keep safe following distances and drive prepared for the cold and slippery winter conditions,” said Transport Agency Journey Manager Lee Wright.
