Lane closures on Gladstone Road Bridge this week

|

Tairāwhiti Roads is advising road users that Gladstone Road Bridge will be down to one lane this Wednesday 20 February and Friday 22 February to allow contractors to install new steel balustrades.

One lane will be closed from 7.30am on both days, for approximately eight hours. Traffic controllers will be in place to manage traffic on the bridge while the lane is closed.

Tairawhiti Roads General Manager Dave Hadfield says road users should expect delays and plan ahead.

“We know that the lane closure causes delays on the bridge, as well as on Wainui Road, Childers Road and Customhouse Street. Motorists should consider using an alternative route or allow an extra 10 minutes for their journey,” he says.

It is expected that the Friday closure will be the final closure needed on Gladstone Road Bridge as part of the project to widen the bridge to create a shared walking and cycling path.

“Tairawhiti Roads would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding throughout the closures.”

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
