Last chance for Kiwis to vote for their favourite places to ride

|

The NZ Transport Agency is reminding keen Kiwi cyclists that there is only one week left to vote for their favourite cycling spots in the annual Favourite Places to Ride competition.

The competition is heating up with almost 8,000 nominations already received. Nominations will close on Wednesday 31 May and the winners will be announced in early June.

This year the competition is bigger and better with a new Top Town award which will go to the city or town that receives the most nominations across the Urban Ride, Off-Road or Adventure Ride and Community Facility categories.

Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Taupo and Rotorua are currently making up the top five. But votes are close so the title is still very much up for grabs!

The categories are:

  • Urban ride
  • Nga Haerenga – The New Zealand Cycle Trail
  • Off-road or adventure ride
  • Community facility (e.g. velodromes, Bikes in Schools, BMX tracks and pump tracks)

Kiwis can vote online at www.nzta.govt.nz/favplaces and just by nominating they will go in the draw to win their share of $1,000 in bike vouchers.

Favourite Places to Ride is part of the government’s commitment to making cycling a safer and more attractive transport choice for New Zealanders. By Kiwis sharing their favourite routes it helps to encourage more New Zealanders to ride their bikes for every day trips.
