Important information for drivers.

Waitangi Day Holiday

  • With many people taking Friday off to extend the Waitangi Day Holiday, extra traffic can be expected on state highways this weekend. Drivers should be ready for this and take all the usual precautions. Be patient, do not speed, pass with care, never drive while tired and make sure everyone is wearing a seatbelt.
  • The NZTA/Waka Kotahi Holiday Journey Planner is live. It gives a breakdown of where all the expected congestion spots will be around the country. If you are away for a long weekend, please use it to help plan your trip.
