The details below outline the main planned state highway roadworks occurring in the greater Wellington region and the top of the South Island over the coming week (13 November 2022).

State Highway 1

• SH1 Wellington, Monthly Tunnel Maintenance Closures, 9pm-5.30am

  • Forestry road access to Hira for residents in the closure zone only

  • Resurfacing works - Tuesday 8 to Monday 14 November
  • Stop/Go traffic management, 30km/h temporary speed restrictions during working hours, 50km/h outside working hours.  Working hours: 6 am-6 pm weekdays only.
• SH6 Buller Gorge
  • Overnight closures, 14-19 November. Road marking and maintenance
  • Upper Buller Gorge  - three nights, 14-16 November
  • Lower Buller Gorge – four nights, 16-19 November
  • The road will be closed from 10 pm to 6 am each night with an opening at 1 am to 1:30 am to allow traffic to pass.
