Detailed information on the operations of the Northern Gateway Toll Road (NGTR) for the period from 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011 has been released by the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA).

The Northern Gateway Toll Road has operated to expectations over the 12 month period. The report (PDF, 438KB) shows that just over 5.1 million trips were made on the road during the year, almost three percent higher than the previous year's volume and in-line with forecast.

A high payment compliance rate of 96% was achieved while the transaction cost was up 1cent for the period to 78cents (against our target of 65cents). However the 1 August introduction of transaction charges for phone and kiosk payments and an increased administration fee for Toll Payment Notice reminders has since driven the transaction cost down to 63cents.

During the year a key focus was the introduction of Infringement notices for non-payment of tolls which resulted in $1.2M being collected.
