Remutaka Hill closed Thursday night, 4 August, for storm recovery and slip clearing

|

Road users in Wellington and Wairarapa should plan ahead, consider alternative routes, and be prepared for delays with State Highway 2 over the Remutaka Hill will be closed tomorrow night – Thursday, 4 August.

Because of severe weather conditions over the past week, a number of slips have occurred on the Remutaka Hill.

These slips are a safety risk and must be cleared as soon as possible. As a result, State Highway 2 over the Remutaka Hill will be closed from nine pm to four am on Thursday night to allow this work to be done.

Access will be available for emergency services throughout the closure. Other road users will be able to be escorted over the hill during this time, but waits of up to an hour are possible.

Drivers are asked to queue at the designated closure points and to be prepared for delays.

Waka Kotahi understands the closure may inconvenience some road users. We want to thank them for their patience and understanding as we carry out this essential work.
