State Highway 6 north of Haast closed, SH73 open on hour, serious crash Templeton closes SH1 south west of Christchurch

State Highway 6

Severe rain on the West Coast overnight has caused flooding and slips. The NZ Transport Agency closed State Highway 6 between Ross and Haast before 8 am today with an update around 10 am.  “The highway is not likely to be open to a single lane this morning given the multiple slips and flooding,” says Transport Agency Regional Performance Manager Pete Connors.

The rain is forecast to ease about 11am.

State Highway 73 Arthur’s Pass/ Otira

The existing slip at Deception Point, the lower Otira Gorge, on State Highway 73, is also affected by the rain, however crews are managing to maintain a schedule of hourly highway openings at the top of each hour. Drivers should expect delays.
