SH1 closed overnight between Seddon and Kaikoura

State Highway One will be closed overnight between Seddon and Kaikoura.

The NZ Transport Agency Highway Manager Marlborough Roads Frank Porter said the Agency will reassess the condition of the highway and its bridges tomorrow morning.

“The safety of our customers is our number one priority so we are closing the road overnight. The road has cracks in it and there is debris on the road from numerous slips and rock falls, which will make driving along the highway at night hazardous,” said Frank.

Meanwhile motorists and other road users are advised to take extreme care as they travel about the region.

“Please avoid unnecessary travel around the region and if you do have to travel this evening take extreme care,” he said.

Meanwhile the NZTA traffic operations centre in Johnsonville, Wellington, continues to operate and is monitoring the highways and transport network in Wellington and Blenheim 24 hours a day seven days a week.
