SH1 near Karapiro CLOSED due to serious crash

UPDATE: 14 July, 4:06pm SH1 is now open.

State Highway 1 is CLOSED due to a serious crash between the intersection of State Highway 29 and Tirau.

The NZ Transport Agency says a detour is currently in place via SH 29 & SH 27 in both directions between Karapiro & Tirau. 

At this stage the highway is expected to be closed for several hours and motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journey.
