SH1 to be closed for two nights in Tirau

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) advises that State Highway 1 will be temporarily closed in Tirau for two nights to enable ONTRACK to replace the overhead rail bridge.

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) advises that State Highway 1 will be temporarily closed in Tirau for two nights to enable ONTRACK to replace the overhead rail bridge

SH1 will be closed overnight to all through traffic for 12 hours from 8pm on Friday October 3 and for a further 12 hours from 8pm on Saturday October 4. SH1 will remain open through Tirau during the day.

A clearly signposted detour will be in place between the State Highway 5 intersection in the south and Okoroire Road in Tirau town in the north.

NZTA Acting Regional Operations Manager, Alan Burkett, says the detour is likely to add an extra five minutes to the normal travelling time through Tirau and he encourages motorists to allow for the additional time.

This work is weather dependant and may be postponed if weather prevents the planned works to be carried out as programmed.
