SH2 – Final surfacing for a section of the Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road

|

The NZ Transport Agency advises that the last section of the Tauranga Eastern Link (TEL) Toll Road is ready to have the final asphalt surface applied.

The NZ Transport Agency advises that the last section of the Tauranga Eastern Link (TEL) Toll Road is ready to have the final asphalt surface applied.

The work is expected to take place on the 3.5km section between the Domain Road interchange and the Kaituna River bridge next week from Monday 16 to Friday 20 November.

Drivers can expect minor delays with a 50km/h speed restriction in place through the 3.5km length between 6am – 6pm and 80km/h between 6pm and 6am. The remainder of the Toll Road will be unaffected by the works. Drivers also have the option to use the Te Puke Highway.

Sections of the TEL are built on peat requiring a different process for the road construction. A larger chip seal surface is necessary to provide a waterproof layer while the road settles. The chip seal surface needs traffic to drive over to bed-in the larger stones before the final Open Grade Porous Asphalt (OGPA) surface can be applied.

Once this section is this completed the full length of the TEL will have an asphalt surface which is designed to minimise noise and water spray.

This work is weather dependent, and if delayed, the work will be carried out on the next suitable day.

The Transport Agency apologises for any inconvenience and thanks motorists for their patience during the works.
