SH2 Pahiatua to Mangatainoka resurfacing work next week

|

State Highway 2 between Pahiatua and Mangatainoka will undergo resurfacing work over two days next week.

Work will take place on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 March, between 7am and 5pm daily.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Regional Manager Maintenance and Operations Jaclyn Hankin says Stop/Go traffic management will be in place while the work is underway.

“There will be delays of up to 20 minutes due to the length of the work site, however there will be a detour available for light vehicles that choose not to wait the 20 minutes.”

The detour for Pahiatua-bound traffic will be via Carisbrook Road, Middle Road, Pahiatua Pongaroa Road, Mangaramarama Road, Kaitawa Road, Tiraumea Road to State Highway 2, Pahiatua. Mangatainoka-bound traffic will take the same route, in reverse. This detour is not suitable for heavy vehicles.

Ms Hankin says the works involve the second coat sealing of resurfacing carried out last year.

4 February 2021 media release: SH2 between Pahiatua and Mangatainoka to undergo resurfacing

“In February last year we carried out the initial steps of resurfacing this stretch of road to ensure it remains safe.

“The work this month involves applying a second coat of chipseal to provide a thick, durable layer.

“It is essential the first coat has enough time to settle before resealing.”

Ms Hankin asks road users to plan ahead, allow extra time for their journeys and follow the directions of traffic management staff and signs.

“Please take extra care when travelling through the work site to help keep yourself, other road users and our road workers safe.”

In the event of poor weather, work will be postponed to the next fine day.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience while we undertake this important work on the state highway network.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
