SH35 between Ōpōtiki and Gisborne to remain closed near Whitianga Bay

|

The NZ Transport Agency is advising State Highway 35 near Whitianga Bay in eastern Bay of Plenty is likely to stay closed overnight following a slip.

The slip, which is about 40 kilometres from Ōpōtiki, occurred early this morning.

NZTA Bay of Plenty Transport System Manager, Rob Campbell says work is continuing at the site but it is not expected to open today.

“Crews are working hard to clear the slip however more mud and rock is still falling making it unsafe for the public.

“People should continue to check the website and social media or call us on 0800 4 HIGHWAYS before travelling through this area,” Mr Campbell says.

The NZ Transport Agency thanks road users for their understanding and patience and asks them to remain cautious in this area.
