SH43 west of Taumarunui - restricted vehicle access

|

The NZ Transport Agency wishes to advise SH43 west of Taumarunui is down to one lane 23 km west of Taumarunui at Tunnel Hill.

SH43 Tunnel Hill

Mark Owen, Transport System Manager says the outside lane has dropped away, leaving limited space for vehicles.

“The road is down to a single lane, with temporary traffic management and a 30km/h speed restriction in place.

“Safety is our top priority. Geotechnical engineers have visited the site and are urgently assessing options for repair. In the meantime, the site will continue to be monitored daily,” says Mr Owen.

This section of SH43 is closed to heavy vehicles, with a detour in place via Ohura.

Heavy vehicles heading north should use Mangaparo Road, Ohura Road and Okahukura Saddle Road onto SH4, then on south to Taumarunui. Those travelling south should turn off SH4 onto Okahukura Saddle Road, then Ohura Road and Mangaparo Road onto SH43.

Mr Owen encouraged motorists to drive with caution through the area.

The Transport Agency apologises for any inconvenience or delays to road users. Please plan ahead and allow more time for your journey.
