SH53 Waihenga Bridge closed due to flooding

|

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists that the SH53 Waihenga Bridge in the Wairarapa has been closed due to rising river levels.

Local road detours are in place, and drivers should allow an extra 50 minutes for trips between Featherston and Martinborough.

Drivers are urged to check the Waka Kotahi Journey Planner for the information, as conditions on local roads may also deteriorate.

Waka Kotahi is also urging anyone who does need to drive in areas affected by severe weather to adjust their driving to the conditions, which means slowing down, increasing following distances, switching headlights on and watching for flooding and other debris on the road.
