Significant traffic delays on State Highway 1, Paekakariki

A gas leak on State Highway One north of Paekakariki, Wellington is causing significant delays both north and southbound between Plimmerton and Paraparaumu.

Currently motorists should avoid using the coast road and make other arrangements, including delaying travel if possible.

To keep up to date with the changing situation, refer to our social media and websites.

“Crews are working to address the gas leak and we are aiming to open the road to two lanes. However due to the current traffic queues we are expecting the traffic to take several hours to clear,” Richard Hocken, Chair, Regional Transport Response Team.

“The gas leak is north of Paekakariki township, so using the Paekakariki Hill Road is not an alternative route and that road is likely to close at 3pm until further notice,” Mr Hocken says.
